The Ghost Officer
of Golden Gate Park
While some would call this a ghost story it is more of an urban legend.
There are many versions of this story and they are told in various ways.
In short the story runs...
A police officer roams the park at night searching for speeders. When a
person gets pulled over the officer writes them a ticket and tells them to
be more careful. When they try to pay the ticket there is no record of one
being issued. Further investigation reveals that the officer isn't a
current member of the police force. An "old timer" recognizes
the officer's name but says it can't be the same officer because that
officer has been dead for over ten years. The story usually concludes with
a warning that if an officer ever tries to pull you over in Golden Gate
Park you should drive outside the park before pulling over because the
ghost officer will disappear as you leave the park.
