Moreland Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Trail

The Moreland Educational Foundation was founded in 1993 by a group of parents, administrators, and local citizens. It supports programs in all six of Moreland School District schools in San Jose.

Every October Moreland presents its annual Pumpkin Patch and Haunted Trail. This was our first visit and we weren't disappointed.

The patch and trail is adjacent to Easterbrook Discovery School in a large dirt field with big trees. There are plenty of good looking orange pumpkins to choose from of varying sizes. But we headed straight for the Haunted Trail.

The trail is very cute and much spookier, well done, and creative than I expected. As we walked through, the squirrels got into the haunting game and caused a startle or two as they climbed high on trees overhead, causing limbs to move and creak suddenly.

As you meander down the dirt path there are scenes along the way. There is a cemetery with great headstones ("Here lies Kevin O'Toole, he thought it was so cool to smoke at school"), a wonderful black carriage, coffins, skeletons, little devils, pumpkins hanging from a tree, a "Re-Possesed" house (how appropriate for our current economy), spiders, witches, evil Cub Scouts, and more. I really enjoyed looking at all the scenes. The hard work and time that went into creating the trail was evident.

There are a special events going on at the patch on most weekends. On Oct. 22nd have dinner at the pumpkin patch and see the Haunted Trail at night with scary actors and creepy tour guides. On Oct. 29th there will be a Pumpkin Fest during the day with an array of baked pumpkin treats. Then in the evening there will be dinner items for sale and a scary Haunted Trail tour. See more planned activities on the Moreland website!

Be sure to take a look at our Events Calendar or our map of pumpkin patches and haunted houses to find all the other great events going on in the Bay Area.
