Get ready for the ride of your afterlife! After 34 years as one
of Disneyland's most popular attractions, the Haunted Mansion is
becoming its own movie! Disney's Haunted Mansion will be
released on November 26, 2003.
Eddie Murphy plays Jim Evers, a workaholic real estate agent
who goes on a job interview at the mansion hoping to rebuild it
into a lavish new condo development. He drags his wife and two
kids along after hearing the owner is a family oriented man. At
the mansion Evers and his family get separated from one another and Evers meets
Madame Leota (Jennifer Tilly), a fortuneteller whose head is
encased in a crystal ball. She tells Evers the sad tale of the
mansion and that he and his family are doomed to forever join
the 999 resident spirits unless they can set a befallen bride's
spirit free by the 13th hour.
Being Disney, we have to have a moral message, and Evers
learns the value of family and how he should not neglect those
who love him, all while trying to undo the curse of the mansion.
Watching the trailer of the movie, I was happy to see images
from the Haunted Mansion attraction incorporated into the
storytelling, as I think the attraction is a superb example of how to
frighten and delight at the same time. One of my favorite parts
of the attraction is the spooky Madame Leota, and I was happy to
see her appear in the movie.
Haunted Mansion is directed by Rob Minkoff and in addition to
Murphy and Tilly, features Don Knotts as the groundskeeper.
