Upon exiting haunts, the Hauntmaster and I compare notes to see if we are on the same page about how good or bad a haunt was.  In the case of Dungeon of Fear, I said, "There wasn't a lot of stuff in there, but what was there was really good!"  The Hauntmaster said, "That's exactly what I was going to say!"

For the most part, Dungeon of Fear was a lot of un-spooky hallway walking underneath low-hanging gauze, spider webs, and small props. But the hallways weren't dark or decorated enough to be scary. There are about five good rooms, and as I said, these rooms were really well-done.

They tried to scare you along the way with loud noises (one near the beginning nearly made me jump out of my skin), rickety flooring, and air shooting out at you. All of this combined with more to see and the haunt would be great.

By far the best the room was the witch hanging room. A rather spooky actor tells you evil witches will be hanged but their spirits cannot die, he holds a rope connected to the gallows a witch is hanging from. With a drop of the rope she falls to her death.  What happens next I'll have to keep a secret but believe me when I tell you I got a really good scare!

Also, particularly effective was the "Don't Look Here" window. It's human nature to look where you aren't supposed to and even though you know they want you to look you can't resist. It's definitely worth looking where you're not supposed to.

Dungeon of Fear has something I've never seen before in a haunt - a "car" that moves unexpectedly toward you with its lights on and horn honking.  It was well-done and exciting.

Another great feature was a maniac behind a chain fence dragging a prop against the fence that created sparks.  I had never seen this done before and it really scared me and made me jump away for fear of being burned!

As I've said, with a little more to see, this would be an excellent haunt, as they have some pretty original ideas and the actors were great.
