Dr. Evil's House of Horror
16101 Neeley Rd., Guerneville
Reviewed 10/09/10 by Hauntmistress
Guerneville is technically not in the Bay Area, but if you are at all in the area, you do not want to miss Dr. Evil’s House of Horror.
I’m sure you’ve seen haunted houses advertised as “not your ordinary haunted house” or “like no other”. Dr. Evil’s really meets this expectation. From the moment I entered until I got to the exit, I was thinking that I might not make it out in one piece.
Walking through Dr. Evil’s I felt a little like Niki, Molly Ringwald’s character in 1983’s Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone, during the part where she had to make it through an obstacle course or be killed. There were tight and twisty passages, some so low we had to almost crawl, unexpected stairs up and down, floors that felt unstable, and hallways that were pitch black. Imagine being thrown into a junkyard at night and told to dig your way out while a murderer is chasing you.
Speaking of murderers, the haunt’s performance artists and their make-up and costumes were top notch. They menaced, hissed vile things at us, and seemed to pop out in unexpected places. They also weren't afraid to prod and grab.
Dr. Evil’s is really original. Give it a try if you’re in the area or up for a road trip!
