Alien Extreme

2501 Tully Rd., San Jose

For those of you who like your scares with a little bit of camp, Alien Extreme is for you!

In Alien Extreme, you find out that an alien spacecraft has crashed next to the county airport in San Jose. You will tour through a scientific outpost overrun by the aliens and discover what happened to the poor scientists at the outpost.

The haunt allows you inside in groups of no more than 10. You'll first watch a little video to get the scoop on what's going on at the outpost. Then you enter Sector 7G. Nice touch, as Simpson's fans will know that this is where Homer works at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. In Sector 7G you learn that a specimen has broken free and is now loose in the outpost. That ends the guided part of the tour.

The haunt then takes you inside and outside as you try to escape the aliens. Our group immediately splintered as some were laughing and running and others screaming and trying to hide behind other people. It was quite amusing.

The haunt does a good job of telling its story and the actors are really good and sometimes funny - the whole thing seemed like an absurd episode of Stargate! You walk through battle scenes with people and aliens shooting, scientists in cages, experimentation rooms, and alien-human hybridization going on in cages, and more. They even managed to throw in a black-light dot room. This seemed a little out of place, but the actor in it was awesome.

The haunt is on a big compound that also has a gazillion inflatable jumpers and a super slide (and hay bales for parents to sit on while they wait), a little race track, a Halloween store, a small pumpkin patch, a portrait area, a Tarot Card reader, and carnival-like games. There is also an ATM on-site. If you take advantage of all this, it makes the $20 admission almost worth it. It was very crowded and it looked like everyone was having a great time!
