ScareCo Haunted Attraction
Brings New Fear to the Bay Area

9/20/2014 by Ally Boley, Creative Director for ScareCo, Inc

Located in West Oakland’s historic and abandoned 16th Street Station, ScareCo Haunted Attraction presents Platform 13, an intense, new event that’s sure to frighten the Bay Area this Halloween season! Platform 13 exposes patrons to the train depot’s dark history, taking them onto the back platform behind the main hall. Providing interactive scares at every turn, Platform 13 is recommended for ages 10 years old and older, and is not for the faint of heart. Are you brave enough to board Platform 13’s phantom train? Be sure to purchase your ONE-WAY ticket soon!

As if Platform 13 weren’t enough, ScareCo’s hosting three secondary events based out of the station’s main hall. Dexter Morgan’s Contact provides an all-new experiment in fear, investigating the station’s paranormal activity. In this event, patrons become ghost hunters, focusing particularly on the infamous case of the 4:45 p.m. departure to Grand Island, Nebraska: Oakland’s sister station. Across the hall, patrons discover monsters on a larger scale in Cleve Hall’s Ultimate Kaiju Encounter, created by SyFy Channel’s Monster-Man. Lastly, if brave enough, patrons can participate in The Last Ride, a horrifying simulation of being buried alive.

ScareCo Haunted Attraction is thrilled to operate in the 16th Street Station. The station, opened in 1912, served as the final, western-most stop on the Pacific Railroad. Damaged by the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989, the station was decommissioned in 1994. Since then, the station has sat empty, hosting occasional film and photo shoots. But has it really been empty? We suppose you’ll have to find out!

ScareCo Haunted Attraction is making a debut this season. Owners Alex Riner-Willens and Joshua Overturf are from Southern California, as evidenced by Platform 13’s Hollywood-style effects and technology. They have over 25 years’ experience working with The Haunted Hotel in San Diego, where Joshua managed the company’s operations while Alex led actor-training exercises for multiple events. In addition, Alex has visited dozens of pro haunts across the nation, including some of the industry’s number one players.
