Attention Aspiring Horror Filmmakers
Are you an aspiring horror filmmaker? Think you're the next Hitchcock, Romero, or Savini or just want to show off the blackest depths of your creativity? Then these three upcoming horror film festivals are just what you're looking for.
Sacramento Horror Film Festival
Three jam packed days of blissful terror hosted by Mr. Lobo and The Queen of Trash with special celebrity guests (Chiodo Brothers, Adrienne King, Harry Manfredini, Tiffany Shepis), performances, and music.
Filmmakers are invited to submit their original horror, suspense, thriller, and horror-related documentaries, animation, and music videos on DVD. Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2006. Non-English language films are welcome but must have English subtitles.
For more information about the Sacramento Horror Film Festival and to submit your entry visit the Sacramento Horror Film Festival website.
Holiday Horror Fest
From the same people that brought you the Sacramento Horror Film Festival comes Holiday Horror Fest; a one day and night Santa's slay full of independent holiday shorts and features. Attendees of the festival will also be treated to musical guests, games and prizes, and a Psycho Santa and Mutilated Elf costume contest.
Independent filmmakers are invited to submit their holiday themed horror movies by November 8, 2008. Entries must be in DVD format and have been created after January 2004. Non-English language films are welcome but must be subtitled in English.

BCM Horror Film Festival
Closer to home, Berkeley Community Media is hosting the 2nd Annual BCM Horror Film Festival on October 25, 2008. A full night of horror shorts will be presented at the newly remodeled Berkeley Community Media studios. The first half of the festival will be films suitable for all ages followed by a brief intermission and the truly gorey shorts.
Filmmakers are invited to submit their 10 minute or less horror short in miniDV, DVCAM, or DVD format. There is a $13 application fee (before September 26th, $19 after) and a $2 discount is available to filmmakers who deliver their entry in person to the BCM studio. Select filmmakers will be interviewed and have trailers of their films shown on BCM's HorrorTV.
The early deadline for submissions is September 26th and the final deadline is October 4, 2008 so get your entry together quickly!
