Half Moon Bay
Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off,
Art & Pumpkin Festival

Mark your calendars, it's time again for the Half Moon Bay Great
Pumpkin Weigh-Off and the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival.
Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off, October 8, 2007
Festivities kick off with the West Coast's most prestigious gathering of titanic pumpkins and their fanatical growers
in the 34th Annual World
Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off, Monday, October 8th, 7:30 AM at the
I.D.E.S. Grounds on Main Street in Half Moon Bay.
Joel Holland will be defending his three year winning streak against
competitors from California, Oregon, and Washington who will all be
trying to capture their share of $20,000 in prize money. This year, the
prize for the largest pumpkin has been raised from $5 to $6 per pound.
With the largest pumpkins weighing in at well over 1,000 lbs for the
last 6 years, and over 1,200 lbs for the past 3 years, this is a
considerable increase.
The monster pumpkins will be forklifted onto a meticulously calibrated 5-ton capacity digital scale.
Representatives from the San Mateo County Agricultural Commissioner’s
Office of Weights, Sealers, and Measures will officiate the weighing.
The public will vote for the Most Beautiful Pumpkin, which in turn
will receive a special $500 prize.
The
winning pumpkin will ride a float in the Great Pumpkin Parade and will
be on display along with four runner-ups at
the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival, Oct. 13-14, 2007.
