Weekend guide for 10-28-2011 to 10-31-2011 by the Hauntmistress
Halloween is here! We at Haunted Bay hope you have had a wonderful October and wish you great fun these remaining days of the month. To help you with that, here are our Top Picks for the last weekend of the month (including Oct. 31st).
Get into the spirit of things on Friday at the UC Choral Ensembles Halloween Show at UC Berkeley. Enjoy spooktacular performances by the UC Men's Chorale, UC Women's Chorale, UC Men's Octet, California Golden Overtones, Noteworthy, Cal Jazz Choir, and Perfect Fifth.
Also on Friday, you can join the de Young Museum for a Venetian Masquerade Ball and wear your favorite Renaissance costume!
If you're still in the mood for a little night music on Saturday, the First Presbyterian Church of Alameda holds its annual Pipe Screams. There will be special ghost appearances by Casper, Blackbeard, Henry the 8th, and Anne Boleyn - with and without her head! Plus audience sing-alongs and a costume parade, all under a huge spider web!
On Friday and Saturday, Sutter’s Fort, once a portal for weary pioneers, again serves as the gateway to their restless spirits who return to tell the tales of their lives and melancholy deaths at this special family friendly event.
Running Oct. 25-31, you can catch Fear at the Playhouse in San Francisco. Watch as the Un-Scripted Theater Company creates a full-length thriller before your very eyes. With no script, it's improvised horror and no two shows are the same! As a special for Haunted Bay readers, save 25 percent on your tickets by using the coupon code HAUNTED online or at the door!
On Saturday board the USS Hornet for its annual Monster Bash and get a good fright throughout the evening with haunted tours, costume contests, dance favorites by The Cocktail Monkeys, and other treats.
On Saturday and Sunday at Boo at the Zoo in San Francisco kids can trick or treat, enjoy crafts, watch zookeepers provide the animals with tasty Halloween-themed treats, and more! The Sacramento Zoo also offers a similar good time on Sunday and Monday.
Also on Saturday and Sunday, Jack O' Lantern Jamboree at Fairyland offers a spooktacular extravaganza with unlimited rides, parades, treat stations for kids, two jumpers, arts and crafts, costumed fairytale characters, and more! And, in San Carlos, don't miss Halloween Haunted Hanger at Hiller, where on both Saturday and Sunday, the day's events end in smashing style as a flying witch arrives by helicopter to drop her Halloween pumpkin.
On Saturday in San Francisco there are many Halloween parties and bars holding Halloween events. Try the Spider Ball at the historic Bently Reserve, The Haunted Ball at Ana Mandara, True Blood Halloween at Terra Gallery, Trick or Beatz at DanzHaus, Halloween Havoc at Space 550, Element Halloween Ball at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Rouge Nightclub Halloween, Ruby Skye Temple of Doom (also happening Sunday and Monday), or Thriller Halloween Ball at Bimbo's.
On Monday, the town of Clayton offers a Ghost Walk where you'll hear spooky stories and trick or treat along the way.
If you're in Mill Valley on Monday, don't miss Grin Reapers: A Halloween Night Special, featuring scary stories read by funny people with spooky music, a costume contest, and a real live séance featuring a special appearance by "Harry Houdini".
