Weekend guide for 10-24-08 to 10-26-2008 by the Hauntmistress

This is the last full weekend before Halloween and there are so many Halloween events to choose from it’s hard to narrow them down to a few. But we did, and here are our top picks for the weekend of Friday, October 24 through Sunday, October 26, 2008.

On Friday and Saturday, the Harris-Lass House Halloween Spooktacular in Santa Clara offers creepy and thrilling house and barn tours of the Victorian-era Harris-Lass property. Learn about the people who once lived there and find out if any have returned as ghosts!

On Friday, dance the night away on six different dance floors with 10 DJs and an 11-piece Latin band at the Halloween Ball at Regency Center in San Francisco.

Wear your costume and party under the stars at Oakland’s Chabot Space and Science Center Masquerade Ball on Friday. Enjoy a fun night of space adventures, star gazing, live music, microbrews from Buffalo Bill’s Brewery, wine from R&B Cellars, food from the cash bar, and more!

The Noe Valley Harvest Festival in San Francisco on Saturday has live bands, a pumpkin patch, pumpkin decorating, jumpy tent, dog costume contest, a kid’s costume contest, and more to keep you busy!

On Saturday and Sunday at the San Francisco Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo, kids can visit trick or treat stations while encountering animals on the Haunted Nature Trail and visiting the Creepy Crawley Critters in the Insect Zoo. Or, if you’re in the East Bay, the Oakland Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo offers tricks and treats, face painting, animal feedings with pumpkins, and more.

The Exotic Erotic Ball moves to Treasure Island this year. Don’t miss Friday’s party for a most memorable masterpiece featuring flesh, fetish, and fantasy. Or, if you’re in the Sacramento area, the Exotic Zone Ball features a fetish and fantasy stage, human petting zoo, body painting, and more.

Monsters, fairies, goblins, mummies, and vampires will descend on the Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel on Saturday for the Haunted Hostel Halloween Festival, featuring live performances, a spooky scavenger hunt, a grand costume parade, and tricks and treats.

McKinley School’s Harvest Festival and Haunted Mansion on Friday and Saturday in Burlingame offers carnival games, live music, jumbo obstacle course, Talladega frights racing, costume contest, silent auction, crafts, and much more.

Trick or Treat Down 4th Street in San Rafael on Saturday. Last year, over 900 families visited over 100 merchants handing out goodies and sweets to kids in costume!

On Saturday the Dunsmuir House Oktoberfest and Pumpkin Patch offers a family event with old-fashioned games, crafts, hay rides, pumpkin carving, cider, and doughnuts along with some suds and sausages for the grown up crowd, and, of course, some Oom Pah music.

Parade around Todos Santos Plaza with treats for the kids, entertainment, and the Mayor’s Mongrel Mash at the Concord Halloween Parade & Costume Contest on Sunday.

Last but certainly not least, check out our map of pumpkin patches and haunted houses or our Events Calendar. There are many activities happening around the Bay!
