Bay Area Events Top Picks
Weekend guide for 10-16-2010 to 10-17-2010 by the Hauntmistress
It’s the middle of October and there are so many wonderful Fall-related things to do in the Bay Area. In addition to all the haunted houses and pumpkin patches out there, here are our Top Picks for events this third weekend in October.
Concord Oktoberfest in Todos Santos Plaza on Saturday features lots of food, microbrews, crafters, live music, all-age activities, polka parade, and a costume contest. Stick around in the evening for The Haunted Plaza in Todos Santos and walk through a maze of creepy rooms with ghoulish and original surprises.
If you’re in Richmond on Saturday and Sunday don’t miss the Cohn-Stone Glass Pumpkin Garden. Hundreds of glass pumpkins and squash become the bloom of the garden. From the outlandish to the sublime, gigantic to itty bitty, in fantasy colors and forms. Yours for the picking! Glass blowing demonstrations too.
At Oktobeerfest on Saturday in Sacramento you’ll enjoy authentic German food, live music, plenty of good beer, and fun contests and games. The event will feature specially brewed Volkz Brau Ale and performances by Deer Park Avenue and Big Lou’s Casserole. A variety of brews will be available for $5 each.
On Saturday and Sunday celebrate the wonderful Fall bounty that Suisun Valley has to offer at the Suisun Valley Fun Family Farm Days Weekend. You will enjoy U-pick fields, hayrides, pumpkin patches, local jams and olive oils, barrel tasting, winery tours, and much more. Admission and parking are free at each of the seven participating locations.
The Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival on Saturday and Sunday features gargantuan gourds, world-class pumpkin carvers, harvest-inspired crafts, home-style foods, entertainment, a Great Pumpkin Parade, a haunted house, and more!
Not to be outdone, the Menlo Park Fall Festival of Arts & Crafts on Saturday and Sunday features an array of original works perfect for holiday shopping by more than 90 artists and craft makers including paintings, jewelry, photography, unique wood sculptures, clothing, accessories, toys, and more.
Come celebrate a Community Day of the Dead at Meek Park in Hayward on Saturday. The day includes a Day of the Dead ceremony, folklore music and dancing, an original Day of the Dead play, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, and activities for kids.
The Tolay Fall Festival in Petaluma on Friday through Sunday attracts people from around the region for family fun on a spectacular 1,737-acre ranch. It features a hands-on children’s area, animals, a Ranger-led hayride, a pumpkin patch, a World Record Pumpkin Seed-Spitting Contest, and more!
If all of this fun doesn’t make you excited about the Fall, then check out our map of pumpkin patches and haunted houses or our Events Calendar. There are many more activities happening around the extended Bay Area!
