Weekend guide for 10-7-2011 to 10-9-2011 by the Hauntmistress
Whether you’re in the mood to visit a haunted house or a pumpkin patch, or catch a scary movie or celebrate Fall, we’ve got it all for you. Here are our Top Picks for the second weekend in October.
Ready to be scared? Then head to Halloween Haunt at Great America in Santa Clara for six haunted mazes, three scare zones, live stage shows, and the park’s rides! You can also visit the Winchester Mystery House Fright Nights and see the grounds of the Winchester Estate transformed into a haunted walk-through maze!
If you’re looking for some pumpkin fun in Half Moon Bay, you can’t go wrong with Lemos Farm and its neighbor across the street, Pastorino Farms. Lemos offers pony and train rides, a petting zoo, scare zone, and more, while Pastorino’s offerings include a great Halloween and Christmas gift shop, hay rides, and a giant slide. If you’re in the North Bay, stop by Adobe Pumpkin Farm in Petaluma for acres of pumpkins, music, entertainment, and the Spider Hollow Haunted Barn with tons of thrills around every corner!
While you’re in the North Bay, stop by Sebastopol for the Sonoma County Glass Pumpkin Patch where you’ll find a large variety of hand blown glass pumpkins created by some of Northern California’s finest blown glass artists.
On Friday be sure to catch the Monsters in Your Own Backyard Triple Bill at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco featuring The Goonies, The Hole, and Gremlins 2.
Also on Friday is the Benicia Ghost Walk led by paranormal investigators where spooky tales of Benicia’s paranormal history are revealed!
On Saturday or Sunday become a share-cropper for a day and help harvest this year’s Indian Corn and popcorn crops at the Ardenwood Harvest Festival! Enjoy fresh squeezed apple cider, hands-on crafts, games, hoedown music, a pumpkin patch, and the bounty of another harvest season.
If all of this fun doesn’t make you excited about the Fall, then check out our map of pumpkin patches and haunted houses or our Events Calendar. There are many more activities happening around the extended Bay Area!
