Ichabod

Ichabod, you might remember was a character in Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. In 1950 Disney adapted Irving's work into a cartoon of the same name. Bing Crosby was hired on to sing several songs from the soundtrack, one of which was named Ichabod. Here are the lyrics to that timeless song written by Don Rage and Gene De Paul.

Who's that coming down the street?
Are they shovels or are they feet?
Lean and lanky, skin and bones
With clothes a scarecrow would hate to own

Yet he has a certain air
Debonair and devil-may-care
It's the new schoolmaster, what's his name?
Ichabod, Ichabod Crane

Ichabod, what a name
Kind of odd, but nice just the same
Funny pan, funny frame
Ichabod, Ichabod Crane

Ichabod may be quaint
May be odd, and maybe he ain't, ooh bop!
Anyway there's no complaint
From Ichabod, Ichabod Crane

(spoken)And though the arrival of the pedagogue
Gave rise to mixed emotions
The townspeople all agreed
They've never seen anyone
Like Ichabod, Ichabod Crane
