Serves: 12
Prep Time: 3 Hours
Occasion: Halloween
Effort: Average

1 (18.25 oz.) pkg. pudding-included yellow cake mix

1 1/4 cups water

1/4 cup oil

3 eggs

5 each red cinnamon and yellow butterscotch individually wrapped hard candy disks, unwrapped

1 can vanilla frosting

1/8 tsp. lemon yellow gel food coloring

10 - 15 chocolate wafer cookies

8 - 10 pretzel rods, broken in half

6 - 8 mini marshmallows

4 bamboo skewers
How to Prepare:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Generously grease and flour two 9 in. round cake pans.

Prepare and bake cake as directed on package. Cool 15 min. Remove from pans; cool completely.

Meanwhile, line 15x10x1 in. baking pan with foil. Spray foil with nonstick cooking spray. Place red and yellow candies in heavy food storage plastic bag. Finely crush the candies with a hammer or the flat side of a meat mallet. Pour the crushed candies in a thin layer onto the sprayed foil-lined baking pan. Bake for 6 - 8 min. or until candies are completely melted. Allow melted candies to cool completely before handling.

Place frosting in med. bowl; add food color. Mix well. Place 1 cake layer bottom side up on serving plate; spread with 1/2 cup frosting. Top with second layer, bottom side down. Spread very thin layer on sides to seal crumbs. Spread remaining frosting evenly on sides and top of cake.

Break the chocolate wafers into large pieces. Press broken wafers onto sides of cake, arranging to resemble a rock wall. Arrange pretzel pieces on top of cake to resemble logs on a campfire. Break cooled sheets of melted red and yellow candies into pointed shards. Insert candy pieces in top of cake in and around the pretzel "logs" to resemble the flames. Place one or two marshmallows onto the pointed ends of the bamboo skewers. Insert the blunt end of the skewers around the "flames" with the marshmallow ends pointing toward the center of the cake.

When ready to serve, remove decorations and serve with cake.
